One of the hallmarks of Steere House is our pet-friendly atmosphere. Not a day passes without a number of dogs coming through our front door to visit with residents.

The animal world of Steere House is governed by our feline king and master, Henry Steere Jr. During our first week occupying this wonderful building in January of 1991, we found a mangled and starving cat under a car in our front parking lot. The staff immediately raced into action; to say the least, the cat had thought he died and went to heaven: except for the flea bath, this was the best world possible.

Soon Henry became part of the Steere House family. The residents took it upon themselves to "fatten him up". Well, if you visit you can see for yourself what happened. Despite many attempts of Kitty Weight Watchers recommended by the vet, Henry has never lost one pound since that miraculous day in January, 1991. Henry continues wobbling his way around the facility, enjoying every minute of Steere House attention.

Of course, Henry is not our only pet. When you visit, be sure to look for Cadbury, our overweight bunny, Tilly the parakeet, and Maxine, our guard dog.
