This year's annual Autumn’s Promise Dinner & Auction was held on Friday, September 30th at the elegant Renaissance Providence Hotel.
The night featured good friends, good food and an auction full of wonderful items to raise money in support of the Steere House mission and those served.
One of our most important fundraisers of the year, this year's event held something new.
Joan GelchIn celebration of the Steere House legacy and that of the founding Steere family, Steere House used this occasion to pay tribute to the winner of our first annual Steere House Legacy Award. The Award was created to encourage and honor an individual or corporation for their achievements and contributions through public and community service, as well as to inspire volunteering in local Rhode Island communities and organizations. The inaugural Award was given to Joan Gelch, who through her personal and professional endeavors, has demonstrated commitment and service to the community, especially in the areas of health, social services and the elderly. Read more about Joan and her work in our Summer Newsletter.

~ Area Florists Participate in First Annual Autumn’s Promise Floral Competition ~
Steere House announces that Providence-based florist, Check the Florist, has been selected as the winner of the first Autumn’s Promise Design & Shine Competition. Uncle Ronnie’s Flower Shop of Cumberland, RI has won honorable mention in the competition. The Autumn’s Promise Design & Shine Competition is a new feature of the Steere House Autumn’s Promise Dinner and Auction, which was held on September 30, 2011 at the Renaissance Providence Hotel with over 150 attendees. An annual fundraiser which raises funds to support the activity and quality of life programs so important to Steere House residents, Autumn’s Promise has also become an opportunity for area florists to gain recognition within the greater Providence community, while contributing to one of the oldest philanthropic organizations in Rhode Island.
Area florists were invited to create a centerpiece featuring at least one sunflower, the theme flower for the event. Check the Florist’s centerpiece truly stood out as it was the only centerpiece that featured height with a vase approximately four feet tall and incorporating a striking infusion of the color of red by using vibrant red roses accented by yellow sunflowers. The centerpiece took a place of honor by being placed at the table of event Honoree and first Steere House Legacy Award Winner, Joan Gelch.
Honorable mention winner, Uncle Ronnie’s Flower Shop was selected for the variety of flowers used in the arrangement as well as the creative use of fresh fruit.
Steere House plans to feature the competition at next year’s Autumn’s Promise, taking place on September 29, 2012 and invites all interested area florists to participate.
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED THIS YEAR!
